The Global STEM Alliance generates excitement among students and professionals around the world for the teaching and study of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM)—addressing an important deficit in education with implications for society and the global economy in the 21st century.
Through teaching, mentoring, and networking on a virtual learning platform, the GSA provides customized programs and curricula, facilitates networking among top scientists and students, and connects leaders in STEM education to local programs around the world. The ultimate goal: To build a vibrant, STEM-savvy workforce for tomorrow.
The role of governments in creating the circumstances for students to seek, acquire, and employ STEM skills is critical. Developing ecosystems comprised of government policies, business incentives, and cultural attitudes, governments will provide the necessary support, and in turn, align the skills and ambitions of students with the workforce needs that are shared by emerging and developed nations alike.
As an initiative of the New York Academy of Sciences, the GSA forges partnerships between governments and corporations, NGOs and academic institutions, and philanthropists and scientists. It is integral to the Academy’s mission and long history of driving innovative solutions to society’s challenges by advancing scientific research, education, and policy.
